With the development of social economy, people's living standards have been greatly improved. People began to pursue a comfortable and relaxing living experience, the car gradually replaced the traditional means of transport, private cars have became the main means of transportation in people's daily life. Car ownership increased year by year, and brought the problems obvious, frequent accidents have caused irreparable damage to society and the family. So people began to pay attention to driving safety of the vehicle. To minimize traffic problems, people began to focus on the development of intelligent transportation and intelligent vehicles in the high-tech era. So there are more and more researchers into the research in this area, the focus is to study the contents of the preceding vehicle detection, vehicle's distance measuring technology, the two parts is the research's based content of intelligent transportation, intelligent vehicle.Obstacle detection is the core of intelligent vehicle technology. Machine vision has some features, such as wide monitoring scope, enrich the content of information, similar to human driving decision and low cost. Therefore, machine vision has been a high priority in the development of intelligent vehicle, as the most widely studied driving assistive technology today. At present, many intelligent vehicles at home and abroad rely on machine vision to determine the front of the vehicle and obstacles, thus achieving a reminder to the driver or the control of the vehicle. Therefore, the vision based vehicle detection technology has become a hot topic in today's research.The study based on vehicle monocular camera, the distance and speed of front vehicle is detected. The formula of calculating the velocity of the front vehicle is proposed. The detection to vehicle and road is t based on the image processing technology, for the drivers'escort in the driving process.The main structure and content of the paper are as follows:1. Through the research status of domestic and foreign research, understanding the existing intelligent vehicles equipped with a variety of ranging, speed sensors and their advantages or disadvantages. Road and vehicle detection algorithm were introduced in detail.2. Vehicle detection based on computer vision. First, detected the lane line to reduce the amount of calculation, second, detected the shadow feature at the bottom of the vehicle, finally, combined license plate of the vehicle to determine cars in the areas.3. The construction of system model of monocular ranging. The detection of vehicles need to use the camera to get the image, but the selection of the camera parameters, first we need to measure the distance that imaged by the lens, then to set the location and other parameters of the camera according to this distance. On the basis of the coordinates of the actual model, using the mathematical geometry to push down the corresponding expression, create a conversion between the coordinate system, and then calculates the distance between the two vehicles.4. The design and implementation of software system. Using the computer, the MATLAB software is used to simulate and verify the experiment, and the error caused by the static test data was analyzed, and the error of the experiment was adjusted. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is efficient and accurate.
