The modern electronic reconnaissance systems require antenna arrays have the ability of working in ultra-wideband and scanning for wide airspace. However, the ultra-wideband (UWB) arrays are faced with the problem of grating lobes on that condition, which are supposed to be designed as unequally-spaced. Besides, the UWB digital arrays are confronted with the high cost of UWB digital channels. The technology of pattern synthesis of UWB sparse subarrays should be researched. Derived from the practical situation, the thesis makes a thorough study on pattern synthesis of UWB arrays and subarray architecture UWB arrays with the main purpose of low peak side lobe level (PSLL) and avoiding grating lobes. The author's major contributions can be summarized as follows.1. An improved genetic algorithm (IGA) is proposed, the selection operation of SGA is improved. Several present optimal solutions and history optimal solution are introduced into the selection operation of IGA to accelerate the convergence speed and improve the quality of the solution.2. Anovel approach for pattern synthesis of UWB sparse arrays based on the IGAis proposed. The UBW sparse arrays with eight, sixteen, and thirty-two elements are synthesized respectively. The peak side lobe level (PSLL) in their array pattern is analyzed.3. A novel approach for pattern synthesis of UWB sparse subarrays with subarray architecture based on the IGA is proposed. The subarray architecture UWB sparse arrays with thirty-two and sixty-four elements are synthesized respectively. The peak side lobe level (PSLL) in their pattern is analyzed.4. The application research of subarray architecture UWB sparse arrays is studied. The Error analysis and the electromagnetic simulations of subarray architecture UWB sparse arrays with thirty-two elements is completed. An array prototype is made to measure its radiation characteristic. The experimental results verified the correctness and the validity of the pattern synthesis in this thesis.
