Wireless Mesh Networks(WMN) have emerged as a promising technology that can provide self-organization and self-healing. Benefiting from the distributed and multi-hop architecture, WMN has great superiority over the traditional networks in terms of network reliability, scalability and flexibility. With the development of wireless network and science technology, “energy efficient networks” are becoming an inevitable trend for future wireless network design. Moreover, require of network performance has been higher. As a key technology, power control can be used to reduce the energy dissipation and the disturbances between links, so that the performance of network can be promoted in all directions. There are many research focusing on power control, but most of them stay on the theory level, the research means are theoretical simulations, those results cannot be used in practical engineering. When confirming the transmitting power, the model is simple, the evaluation criterion is sole, the complex environment is hard to be adapted. Therefore, a practical power control algorithm combined with network protocol is of great importance for solving the problem in WMN engineering and improving the network performance.Based on WMN, starting with the practical problems in WMN testing and arranging, the main contents can be included as follows:(1) Two problems with energy consumption and interference are described. The contact between WMN and LTMRP protocol is analyzed, which points out that distributed power control algorithm fits LTMRP well. Two kinds of local power control algorithm LBLA and LBLN combining LTMRP protocol is proposed, which is able to guarantee the network redundancy rate and energy consumption. Meanwhile, the node degree can be limited into a certain concentration range. OGM in WMN is fully utilized so that the design of extra data packages is avoided. The promotion of network lifetime is verified through testing and comparing.(2) Aiming at the characteristic of LTMRP that the network performance is determined by link quality, the evaluation criterion of link quality in LTMRP is optimized. Aiming at enhancing the LTMRP link quality, a power control algorithm based on average link quality LB-LQPC is designed. Given a certain concentration of the node degree, the algorithm is capable to aware the link quality by interacting OGM frame. The best link quality can be found by adjusting transmitting power, which leads to the improvement of energy consumption, transmission delay and packet loss-ratio.
