Spatial modulation(SM) is a novel spatial multiplexing scheme recently proposed for multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems with the advantages of high energy efficiency, avoiding inter-antenna synchronization(IAS) at the transmitter, no inter-channel interference(ICI) at the receiver and so on. In this thesis, the properties and application of SM are studied. The transmit antenna selection in the spatial modulation system is studied. Firstly, the computational complexity of the transmit antenna selection algorithm proposed is reduced through an alternative computation of the singular value. Secondly, the minimum distance ascent(MDA) search is proposed to reduce the search complexity, where the initial antenna subset is acquired by the greedy incremental algorithm. This thesis proposes and studies a new method to communicate in multiuser multiple-input multiple-output(MU-MIMO) downlink system with pre-coder spatial modulation(PSM). Firstly, PSM and block diagonalized vector perturbation(BD-VP) are combined to realize the base station sending messages to more than one users, and the adaptive scenario is also studied. Then the using of space shift keying(SSK) modulation in the opportunistic communication is studied. And the transmit antenna selection(TAS) based on the minimum euclidean distanceis is also considered. Finally, the comparison study with the opportunistic multiple-input multiple-output with TAS in terms of symbol error rate and mutual information is given through simulation to validate the performance of the presented scheme. Moreover, the application of the spatial modulation(SM) in the asymmetric two-way relaying channel(TWRC) is studied. Utilizing the UEP capacity, two SM-based asymmetric two-way relaying schemes are proposed for the cases with and without direct-link between two source nodes, respectively. The bit error rate(BER) performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed when transmitted on the independent and identically distributed Rayleigh fading channel.
