Machine vision is a cross discipline based on computer science, digital image processing, AI and other disciplines. The main purpose of machine vision is using the computer to extract information from the digital image. Compared with the human vision, machine vision is still imperfect in the area of image information analysis, but has a lot of advantage in the areas such like distance calculation. Furthermore, the machine vision does not need rest and could work in severe environments. Those advantages make it possible to replace the human eyes, the realization of intelligent recognition.In recent years, machine vision was introduced into industrial production. It improved the level of intelligent industrial production and had achieved great economic and social benefits. Machine vision is the typical development direction of current industrial productivity progress. Machine vision began to play an increasingly important role in industrial production with the development of the China.Depending on the research of the requirement of workpiece detection, including both the basic theory of machine vision and the actual requirement, the software starts from the classification of all necessary algorithm of machine vision. Then, modern software engineering methods was introduced to make sure that the software is easy to use over the complex vision algorithms. This software was designed on the base of object-oriented development methods such like abstract, inheritance, and encapsulation.After the application in workshop, this software was tested and improved. It was proved that the software is flexible, stable, reliable, and easy to use. It even support functions beyond the original requirement. It fulfills the requirements such like workpiece surface checking.
