The Bohai Sea would freeze in some parts with the coming of winter due to its location. Besides, it can vary from year to year influenced by monsoon. The sea ice, as is known, may cause damaged to both transportation and production. Therefore, real-time monitoring of that sea ice plays a more and more important role with the exploitation of marine resource. This paper introduces areal-time sea ice surveillance system based on footage of surveillance video of the certain Bohai Sea region. When censoring all kinds of information of sea ice, it's crucial to split and recognize the input image. Both area and amount of the sea ice are essential in sea ice recognization. In order to avoid recursion, a new algorithm is proposed in this paper. Besides, this algorithm can scan every target pixel. Present tracking algorithms, such as those based on frame difference, can't be applied to sea ice because there is no reference object in the sea. Thus, Optical Flow Algorithm is adopted in this algorithm, combined with least square method, to track the target sea ice. The Sea Ice Monitoring and analysis system includes three modules: perspective transformation module, computation module and video tracking module. In the first module above, pre-process the input image with classical Chessboard Corner Matching Algorithm. In computation module, processed the image using binarization algorithm along with image erosion & dilation algorithm. Secondly mark the sea in black and ice in white in order to census the relevant information. In video tracking module, an improved Optical Flow Algorithm based on least square method, is adopted to track the sea ice. This System is serving in a nuclear power station's water inlet, and will be serving in the next few years.
