Substrate-integrated waveguide(SIW) is a new type of transmission line. It uses two metal layers on the two surfaces of substrate and two columns of period metal via-holes to guide the transmission of electromagnetic wave. SIW can be processed by Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic(LTCC) technique, Printed circuit board(PCB) technique and so on, and can be integrated with planar other circuits such as microstrip line. It has advantages including low insertion loss, high Q factor, high power handling capability, low radiation loss, low cost, compact size, easy processing and so on. This dissertation mainly focuses on the study of miniaturized microwave components based on SIW. The author's major contributions are outlined as follows:1. The basic structure of SIW has been studied. Including its propagation characteristic, the design of metallized via-hole arrays and the choice of substrate. Then transitions from SIW to other planar transmission line have been introduced, including microstrip line, coplanar waveguide and some coupling structures.2. Interdigital filter based on LTCC has been studied. Including the basic theory of filter design and coupled resonator circuit. Then a 5-pole filter and a 7-pole filter with source-load coupling, centered at 10 GHz, have been designed. With the coupling between source and load, transmission zeros were brought up in stopband, the filter has a good performance.3. Three-dimensional LEGO-style SIW has been studied. E-plane bend, the basic structure, has been analyzed, including its equivalent circuit and the factors affecting its transmission performance. Then a magic-T for Microwave Radio Link(from 10.7GHz to 11.7GHz) has been designed. Artificial bee colony algorithm(ABC) was used to optimize some sensitive parameters of magic-T. The measured and simulated scattering parameters agreed well.4. Quarter-mode SIW(QMSIW) resonator has been studied. Different modes at different resonant frequency were analyzed. Besides, eighth-mode SIW(EMSIW) resonator was also studied. Then a triple-mode filter based on QMSIW centered at 10 GHz, a filter based on QMSIW centered at 5.8GHz and a filter based on QMSIW and EMSIW centered at 10 GHz have been designed. The measured and simulated scattering parameters agreed well.
