Tracking control and containment control problems are two important topics In the research of distributed cooperation control of multi-agent systems, which has drawn much attention from experts and scholars in biological science, com-munication engineering, control science and other different fields. Therefore, this paper will study the tracking control and containment control of second-order multi-agent systems. Our main contributions and results of this paper are listed as follows:1. For second-order impulsive sampled control multi-agent system, necessary and sufficient tracking control criteria are established for multi-agent systems with control protocol including only velocity information/both velocity information and position information as well as leaders with disturbance. Moreover, the range sizes of parameter are given in detail.2. For second-order multi-agent systems with time delays, suppose that there exist information exchange only between the states of velocities, or both between the states of velocity and position, sufficient conditions for multi-agent systems to achieve containment control is presented in the paper as well.3. For nonlinear multi-agent systems with fix topology, by designing two con-trol protocols:static control protocol and adaptive control protocol, containment control criteria are proposed by constructing different Lyapunov functions.
