Research On Ecological Development Of Local Universities’ Characteristic Discipline

In the era of higher education’s popularization,as the main part of higher education of China,local universities’ constructions and development have influences on the overall quality and the future direction of higher education in our country.Under the background of “Double First-Rate” strategy and facing with the increasingly fierce competition among schools,more and more local universities have realized that they are supposed to adopt the differential strategy so that they can succeed by establishing characteristics.Owing to the discipline’s critical function,although universities have various paths to achieve this goal,characteristic discipline is a sally port for them to practice specialization strategy,create schooling feature and bring about connotative development.In the view of ecology,the characteristic discipline in local university can be considered as a special ecosystem.So the ecological development of local universities’ characteristic discipline always manifests that it has appropriate ecological niche,perfect internal ecological factors,coordinated symbiosis with other disciplines and mutual adaptation with external environment.In a way,the enhancement of characteristic discipline’s vitality,the improvement of local university’s competitiveness and the diversification of higher education all depend on the ecological development of characteristic,which can also prove its value and significance.Tibetology,biological chemistry of alpine region and ethnic pedagogy are three characteristic and leading disciplines of Gansu Normal University for Nationalities.This university has accumulated several useful experiences in selecting characteristic disciplines,establishing niche of characteristic disciplines and fostering institutional atmosphere of characteristic disciplines.Of course,there also exists some problems.Most local universities have been struggled with narrow living space,insufficient internal force,inadequate vitality and deficient external power of characteristic discipline’s ecological development.In order to get out of these difficulties,the government,the society,the university and the organization of discipline have to work together.Only in this way can characteristic discipline in local university take the road of ecological development.
