Emotional competence is a comprehensive ability, which is made up of emotional understanding, emotional expression, emotional regulation and emotional empathy. The important measure for children’ mental health is emotional competence. In recent years, the questions of mental health of the rural primary boarders become highlight and get attention of academic circle. However, the existing studies analyze rural primary boarders’ status quo of mental health and its influencing factors from the perspective of problems, and the countermeasures are just for one of the emotional questions. In addition, there are few studies on the improvement of emotional competence from the perspective of positive youth development, and it is lack of intervention measures. In this study,I will use the positive youth development, discover the advantages and resources from rural primary boarders and believe it’s necessary to boost the rural primary boarders’ comprehensive emotional competence. For these problems,I will put forward relevant measures. This study is based on the project, which is called “the Honey Project ——Q Primary School Children’s Development Service Project”,and select “emotional competence” of the boarders from grade three to grade five as the main research content. After the observation and measurement of emotional competence, the intervention plan is based on the social learning theory and emotional ABC theory and guided by the positive youth development.According to the plan, social workers use the group work method to carry out the specific intervention activities from four aspects, which are emotional understanding, emotional expression, emotional regulation and emotional empathy.During the study,I paid my attention to observe, record, summary and evaluate. After eight group activities,I conducted comparison, teacher assessment and the self-assessment of the social worker, and then found as follow:1.Day students’ emotional competence is better than rural primary boarders. What’s more, the emotional understanding, emotional expression and emotional regulation of rural primary boarders are worse than day students. As for emotional empathy, there is less difference, but rural primary boarders are not well.2.It is highly consistent between the positive youth development concept and the concept of social work intervention,so it’s strongly important for social work for youth.3.The group work based on the positive youth development concept plays a key role in rural boarding primary boarders’ intervention of emotional competence. |
