Semantic chunks are the materials to build up a language in terms of pragmatics.The aim of language teaching is to train learners to communicate with target language accurately and fluently with semantic chunks.So far,lots of researches have been done to explore the mechanism of the acquisition of semantic chunks.In recent years,linguists have attached more importance to this aspect.Chunk is prefabricated so it can be stored and extracted as an unanalyzable form.The focus on application of chunk offers a new way in writing teaching in senior high school.The present paper tried to probe into the methods to cultivate students' ability of chunk recognition,classification,storage and application in writing.To start with,the paper introduced the definition and classification of chunk.Then it approached a variety of advantages in the application of chunk in second language acquisition.The study designed a chunk learning program,mainly the methods of effective input,to observe the relationship between chunk learning and the improvement of English writing.The result of the experiment study revealed that the effective input of chunks could greatly improve English writing.The present study gave an implication on English writing teaching.
