Reading is an essential way to English language learning.The overall goal of English course in foundation stage of education is to cultivate the comprehensive ability of using the English language.And the the teachers are asked to relieve the burden of the students since the second significant curriculum reforms happened in Shanghai elementary schools.The teachers in elementary school are facing the challenge of English reading instruction,which is how to extend students' English reading experience during the lessons at school to the cultivation of the students' fundamental discipline accomplishment.English reading homework has already aroused the education scholars' mention for a long time.The experts in foreign countries have achieved fruitful achievements,mainly in four parts which are value research,design research,evaluation research and practice research,while the related researches in China are mainly academic,lack of enough practice research.In this paper,the writer concerns the questions appeared in the English front-line teaching of Grade 5 students.Through the survey among the Grade 5 students,parents and teachers,the writer did the research to find out the factors of suspending when students were finishing the English reading homework and then gave the teachers suggestions for reference in designing the English reading homework later.The writer did the research mainly in two research ways,which are questionnaire survey and interview.After a lot of document researches,talk with the objects of study,series times of survey tests and validity checks,the questionnaires with student,parents and teachers for Grade 5 English reading homework has finally been finished.The questionnaires have been designed for study in four fields which are homework aim,related materials,actions and feelings.Then according to the question parts appeared in the final analysis results in the questionnaire,the writer has designed the interview for further study.Through the study,there are four influencing factors appeared.The students' schema hasn't been activated.Reading passages didn't conform with the students' mental age.Reading activities didn't activate the students' advantages of intelligence.No process evaluation for the reading part.The are some rationalized suggestions listed as follows:Good reading styles are listed as reading response,thinking map and reading log.Individuation reading way such as website for reading,reading list and paper with web way for sending passages.Process evaluation way should be listed into the ways of evaluation for English reading such as academic activities and ego wall.
