| Chinglish,as a common phenomenon in the process of English learning for Chinese learners,has been paid much attention by researchers and scholars at home and abroad.It is a kind of Interlanguage literally.There are a large number of works and researches on Chinglish,but there are few on study of Chinglish in writings of senior high school students,even much less on Chinglish in Senior Three students’ English timed writing.This research analyzes students’ timed writings with the aim to present the situations of Chinglish which often exists in the Senior Three students’ English timed writings under the guidance of New English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education and Senior High School,and puts forward three research questions as follows:1.What is the situation of Chinglish in Senior Three students’ English timed writings?2.What are the main causes for the Chinglish?3.How can Chinglish be best avoided in the future English teaching and learning?In order to explore the situation of Chinglish in Senior Three students’ English timed writings,150 compositions of three topics were collected from Senior Three students.These compositions were written in class(which consists of 77 students from different senior high schools in Wuzhou)within thirty minutes and handed in at the same time 50 being selected randomly out of 77 compositions of each topic.By analyzing the Chinglish errors of the sample compositions,the author obtains the following main findings:in Senior Three students’ English timed writings,there are a lot of Chinglish mistakes,which can be concluded into three levels:1)Chinglish at the lexical level;2)Chinglish at the syntactical level;3)Chinglish at discourse level.Main classifications are also containing many subcategories.The lexical Chinglish turn out to be the most common,followed by the syntactical ones.In order to figure out the main causes for Chinglish in Senior Three students’ English timed writings,a questionnaire and an interview are conducted as the main analysis methodologies of this research,and the software SPSS is applied to the processing of statistics.The results of analyzing the data are as follows:the sources of Chinglish in Senior Three students’ English timed writings are mainly from learning level,including:1)Negative transfer from Chinese;2)Inadequate acquaintance of cultural difference;3)Passive influence of Chinese thinking mode;4)Improper English learning habits.And the negative factors from teaching level can not be neglected.At the teaching levels,three main reasons add to the situation of Chinglish in Senior Thee students’ Chinglish in English timed writings:1)Absence of English input environment;2)Inadequate teaching time for English writing;3)Lack of effective writing teaching methods.Based on the above conclusions,there are some suggestions from both learning aspect and teaching aspect.The author also made some proposals at the end which might be beneficial for future study. |
