Reading is one of the most important types of lessons in high school English teaching.At present,English reading classes have gradually formed a fixed pattern.Many teachers merely focus on language points.The main reason is that they lack the awareness of text interpretation.Thus teaching materials can't be fully made use of.High school students' overall reading ability now is far from satisfactory.Only when teachers have sufficient interpretation of each reading passage can they arouse students' interest in reading and help them form good reading habits especially for students in Senior OneThe study aims to find out the major problems in English reading teaching according to the dimensions of text interpretation and to explore the effects that the application of text interpretation has on reading design and reading teaching.The research methods like classroom observation,corpus analysis and case study are adopted.This paper begins the research by studying the previous researches of text interpretation and observing reading classes to find out the problems in high school English reading teaching.The thesis also sums up dimensions of the text interpretation which are always neglected by teachers when they are dealing with a reading text.In order to help teachers to improve their ability of text interpretation,the paper attempts to interpret the reading texts chosen from module 1 to 2.To look into the effects that text interpretation have on English reading teaching,the author decides to introduce the notion of text interpretation to the school where she works.The changes it brings to teachers,students and reading instruction will be perceived by teachers' group work,classroom observation and the teacher's reflection.According to the data analysis and empirical study,this thesis comes to the following conclusions:1)The dimensions which are always been misunderstood or ignored include language knowledge,structure,text genre,culture and writing skills.2)Different dimensions can be adopted to analyze different reading texts,which is beneficial to reading design.3)With the help of text interpretation,teachers can analyze a passage more thoroughly and it is easy for students to follow the teacher to learn the reading text.However,whether text interpretation can improve students' ability of text interpretation needs further research due to the limited time and constraints of the resources.This research hopes to offer some useful suggestions to English teachers when they are teaching reading.
