Vocabulary teaching is the basic content of English teaching,attracting many domestic and foreign scholars to do researches on vocabulary teaching.Traditional researches on vocabulary teaching mostly focus on the development of the form and the meaning of vocabulary and language skills while ignoring the improvement of students'thinking quality,their learning ability,the shaping of their characters and other qualities.In recent years,researches on the strategies for the English teaching based on the Key Competency Theory(KCT for short)have been done like wildfire.Under the guidance of the Key Competency Theory,the author of this thesis conducts an English vocabulary teaching experiment,which lasts one semester,taking the students of two classes in Fuzhou Shidai Junior Middle School as the experimental subject.The experiment is conducted as an empirical research by means of test comparisons and an interview,with the aim of testifying the feasibility and superiority of the English vocabulary teaching method based on the Key Competency Theory,and exploring a new model for English vocabulary teaching,thus providing some references for the application of the Key Competency Theory to the field of the English teaching.The research findings indicate that under the guidance of the Key Competency Theory,the experimental class has obviously achieved better results than the controlled class in terms of the English vocabulary teaching.Thus,it can be inferred that the Key Competency Theory can be applied to the actual classroom teaching.Compared with the traditional teaching methods,the English vocabulary teaching model under the guidance of the Key Competency Theory can achieve a better teaching result.Therefore,teachers should be more flexible and open,and arouse their students' enthusiasm for learning in the course of teaching English vocabulary,making them use all kinds of teaching resources to meet the needs of their learning.Meanwhile,teachers should also lay emphasis on the design of activities so as to develop their students' thinking ability and putting simulated communicative activities into practice so as to develop their students'communicative ability,thus further achieving the desired objectives of the Key Competencies concerning the discipline of English and the ultimate goal of education.This study can provide some references for the teachers' English vocabulary teaching and the application of the Key Competency Theory to the actual classroom teaching,having some theoretical significance for further enriching the research on the strategies for English vocabulary teaching in middle schools and some practical value for the application of the Key Competency Theory to the actual classroom English teaching.
