With the development and deep discussion of core qualities,many scholars have given the corresponding explanation based on English subject,transforming the idea of New curriculum reform which advocates that school should train students' comprehensive ability of language using from five aspects,language skills,language knowledge,cultural awareness,emotional attitude,learning strategy into the core qualities of English subject composed by four dimensions,language skills,cultural awareness,thinking quality,learning ability.The realization of the four dimensions is directly related to the effectiveness of English teaching,especially the teaching of English reading,which is not only the difficult point but also the key point to cultivate the students' self-core quality.At the same time,the proportion of reading comprehension in college entrance examination has been rising gradually.Therefore,the teaching of English reading is particularly important.Whether students grasp English well can be known through students' reading ability,which is one of the important parts to realize the language skills.However,although teachers know the importance and have spent much time on it,students gains little.In the current teaching,teachers commonly use PWP reading teaching model,but they pay more attention to the vocabulary,sentences and analysis of grammar,fragmenting the integrity of the article,deviating from the ultimate goal of reading,which can't effectively improve the students' reading ability,students even lose the initiative and interest in English learning.This paper centers on the application of main-thread teaching in senior high school.The main purpose of this paper is to verify whether main-thread teaching can improve the reading ability and self-learning ability of students in senior high school,and find the problems during the process of application,which can produce a better effect on reading teaching.In the specific research,the author uses case analysis method and experiment,takes two classes of Grade1 of senior high school in Liaocheng as the research subjects and senior high school English compulsory one published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press as the reading text,designs the teaching cases.Then the author applies the teaching cases to the experimental class,and compares it with the control class.The conclusion of this study is obtained by qualitative and quantitative data analysis.Through the study,the author believes that the application of main-thread teaching on English reading teaching in high school is effective.First,this method can improve the reading ability of high school students.Secondly,it can also improve the ability of independent learning of students.Finally,the author finds some specific problems in the application process;at the same time,she also puts forward some limitations of this study and given the direction of future research.
