Listening is one of the most important skills of English language,and also an important way to input.British Rivers,the writer of A practical Guide to the teaching of English,makes it clear in the book that,in the general adult exchange activities,the hearing accounts for 45% of the total amount of verbal communication activities,speaking 30%,reading 16%,writing 9%.It can be seen that listening is important in learning English.The National English Curriculum for Chinese Senior High Schools(Experimental Version)mentioned that the emphasis on the English teaching is improving students ' listening,speaking,reading and writing skills.As the basic capability of understanding and access to information,the improvement of listening level is not only conducive to cultivation of speaking,reading,writing,but also more conducive to communication activities.However,nowadays,high schools are busy in many subjects and are impressed by the heavy tasks,neglecting the listening so that students are in the status of low listening levels.Their listening abilities needs to be improved.During the internship in No.3 Middle School in Liaocheng City,the author discovered that their listening levels are low.Of English learning,listening ability should be increased and improved.This research is to improve the English listening ability of Grade 10 students.Making an ordinary class-Class 21,Senior 1(56 students),in No.Three Middle School as the research target,the author do the action research for a semester,from September,2016 to the end of December,2016.This action research is based on The Action Research on English Teachers written by Wang Qiang.This study is divided into four main stages: preparation of action research,investigation before action research,implementation of action research,summary of action research.The preparation of action research is mainly to learn and consolidate knowledge of pedagogy and psychology,check out the documents for listening research and action research,preparing for literature review.Before the action research,based on the new curriculum standard,the questionnaires and interviews are conducted to the students on the factors that affected the students ' listening comprehension,and then the factors influencing the students' listening comprehension are further identified through interviews with teachers.The implementation of action research phase includes three projects,under the guidance of teachers,respectively perfect the phonological knowledge,increase students' vocabularies and phrases,learn listening strategies,whose aims are to improve students ' listening comprehension.Choosing interesting materials which are related to life for each project,the author designs real,comprehensive instructional plan.The author uses proper listening methods conducive to student development,and actively participates in classroom observation to reflect.In the end,the author makes summaries and reflection on action research by settling the questionnaire,interview,and test papers.Also,the author will make a plan for the new problems arising in this action research for the next step.Through this action research,the results are as follows: First,the main factors influencing students' English listening level are the week voice intonation,lack of vocabularies and listening strategies.In addition,the short of teaching methods of listening teaching is also an objective reason for the low level of listening.Second,the author puts the listening and lesson class together,through the design of reasonable teaching activities and appropriate listening materials to improve voice pronunciation,increase vocabularies,and learn listening skills so that improve students' English Listening comprehension and level.According to the analysis of research results,there is a remarkable achievement in this action research on improving high school students ' English listening level.
