Intercultural communication is the communication between the two sides of communication,and this feature also determines the cultural teaching must take into account both the mother tongue culture and target language culture.In the process of English teaching,leading in the cultural background knowledge has been accepted in the foreign language teaching.In the specific teaching practice,the majority of foreign language teachers lay more emphasis on the teaching of the target language culture,ignoring the input of mother tongue culture and affecting the improvement of students' intercultural communicative competence,which leads to the inability of students to express Chinese culture in English and causes the phenomenon of “mother tongue culture aphasia”.Learning English culture means to not only learn western culture,but also understand the mother tongue culture better and be able to use English to spread it.Therefore,this thesis aims at cultivating students' awareness of intercultural communication and improving the ability of intercultural communication through intercultural communication.Based on intercultural perspective and the theories of intercultural communication and cultural schema,this thesis studies the present situation of the lack of mother tongue culture in 240 junior middle school students in Yan'an Experimental Middle School through the test and questionnaire,providing valuable first hand information.According to the collected questionnaires,the present author finds the breakthrough points of problems from the aspects of students,teachers and teaching materials,and analyzes the reasons for the lack of mother tongue culture in junior middle school students' English learning.The results of the survey and study show that:The lack of mother tongue culture in junior high school students' English learningis serious,mainly due to the following reasons:(1)Students are not enthusiastic about learning native language culture in English.(2)Teachers in the classroom lay more emphasis on teaching the target language culture,and lay less emphasis on teaching the mother tongue culture.(3)As an important access of cultural resources for students,the textbooks don't involve so much Chinese culture part.Based on the existing problems,the author proposes to cultivate students' awareness of intercultural communication through the study of lack of mother tongue culture,enrich cultural materials and cultural resources of mother tongue,and improve their intercultural communication ability.At the same time,the present author also hopes to help teachers understand the mother tongue culture teaching better,gradually introduce the contents of the mother tongue culture in the future foreign language teaching,and educate more talents with intercultural communication ability.
