Vocational education China is developed vigorously at present, which is transformed from focus on scale to focus on connotation construction. Secondary vocational education is regarded as a hierarchy of vocational education. Secondary vocational students should be trained into intermediate applied talents in the fields of technology production, management services, etc. English, as a tool of professional talents to learn advanced skills and exchange from other countries, has more and more prominent role after China’s accession to the WTO. However, English knowledge and skills can not reach the talent training requirement of secondary vocational education in most secondary vocational and technical schools. Therefore, the author adopts student English learning status of own Y Secondary Vocational and Technical School in Guiyang as investigation object for analyzing causes of the learning status, solution countermeasures are proposed, English teaching quality is promoted in the school, training quality of secondary vocational talents is improved, thereby providing feasible solution and concepts for other secondary vocational schools to improve English teaching.Questionnaire method and interview method are adopted in the paper. 200 students with different English levels and 20 teachers engaged in secondary vocational English teaching are selected from six departments and one research section of Y Secondary Vocational and Technical School in Guiyang. They fill in investigation in four aspects: ’English final exam situation of students’, ’situation of students to attend higher vocational education English entrance examination from secondary vocational education’, ’situation of students to participate in secondary vocational English skill contest’, ’condition of students’ ability to apply English in work’. It is concluded that present situation of student English learning is not optimistic. Reasons of present situation of student English learning are analyzed objectively in three aspects on the basis of collected data and materials: level of school(education idea lays particular stress on vocational skill training rather than English teaching, teaching material selection is not associated with major; teachers are deficient seriously, and teacher team structure is unreasonable); level of teachers(teachers have backward teaching concepts, and single teaching methods and means; teaching contents are not associated with occupation; teaching evaluation is single); level of the students(students’ English foundation is weak, learning motivation is not clear; learning interest is not strong; learning attitude is not correct). Therefore, measures of improving secondary vocational English teaching in the school are proposed in the aspects of level, teacher and students. Finally, conclusion is made in the paper, defects of the paper are described, and work in the future is expected.
