Self-efficacy is a subjective judgment on attaining certain goals, which is made by individuals. It is a key factor influencing the learner autonomy, which involves decision-making about the goals, materials and approaches of learning, the monitoring of learning process and the evaluations of learning.Nowadays, the education received in school is not enough to meet the diverse demands because of the rapid development of science-technology and the fast renewal of knowledge. So many on-the-job persons decide to study again to obtain knowledge and skills that they need.Continuing education provides a good chance of re-study for workers. But the time used for learning is very short for working people because of their various roles in lives.Consequently, autonomous learning is very suitable for them.So the significance of prompting their learner autonomy is apparent. To explore part-time learners' status quo in self-efficacy and learner autonomy, the relationship between self-efficacy and learner autonomy and to offer some suggestions for teaching and learning, the research choose 141 adult learners in the School of Continuing Education affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University as subjects. Each of them was required to do a questionnaire and some of them were interviewed.During the research,1.The status quo of self-efficacy and autonomous learning ability were inve stigated.2.The comparison of self-efficacy in gender, grade, major was made.3.The comparison of autonomous learning ability in gender, grade, major was made.4.The relationship between self-efficacy and autonomous learning ability was analyzed. The findings are:1.The subjects' self-efficacy and learner autonomy are high.2.The subjects differed in self-efficacy between gender and grade.3.The subjects' learner autonomy differed between gender and grade.1.4.There exists significant positive correlation between the subjects' self-efficacyand learning autonomy, and self-efficacy can predict autonomous learning abilityto some extent.
