Explanation skill which affect the geography teachers' professional quality and teaching efficiency is the most fundamental teaching skills in the high school geography class. Geography explanation skill under the New Curriculum Reform is like cramming teaching, which is paid little attention and appears the disadvantage in the geography classes. What's more, the teachers think and operate wrongly of this skill in the process of teaching, so the disadvantages of the skill are aggravated. At present, the research of the high school geography explanation skill is out of system. With the development of the Curriculum Reform, the authorities concerned lay more emphasis on the professional quality of teachers and construction of teacher's professional ability evaluation system.The research is based on the pedagogical diagnosis, and diagnosis scale is designed and uses it as the tool to conclude the current situations. Through the analysis of questionnaires, The research puts forward some strategies finally. In the light of this research, The research can conclude it is of great theoretical value to enrich the geography teaching skills and improve the evaluation system. And it is of great significance to improve the professional teaching quality and efficiency. The article consists of six parts:The first part is the introduction. It is mainly about the current research of the explanation skill at home and abroad. And it illustrate the research objectives,content,and method under the influence of the background and significance of high school geography explanation skill.The second part is including the definition of explanation skill and establishes the theoretical base about geography curriculum and teaching theory, meaningful learning theory and the theory of education communication.The third part is about the construction of The Diagnostic Scale of High School Geography Teachers' Explanation Skill. First, not only guided by the principle and reasons but influenced by the literature review and expert interview, the author makes sure the scale indexes. Second, this paper applies expert assignment using analytic hierarchy process to determine the weight of each index. Third, the reliability of the scale is analyzed in the software of SPSS22.0 .The fourth part is about the observing 20 video geography classes and 6 physical geography classes as research object on the basis of scale and works out the scores results to analyse the current situation of the explanation skills and find out the problems.The fifth part discusses the reasons of the problems about the teachers' explanation skill and puts forward the strategies to deal with. Furthermore, the paper set the control test for the scientificity of diagnosis scale and developmental strategies.The sixth part is about conclusion, existing problem and expectation.
