Knowledge of elements and compounds is one content of college entrance examination. This fully reflects the requirements of the chemistry learning ability.Knowledge of elements and compounds not only scattered, difficult to remember, but also very easy to forget, requires teachers to find an effective tool to play a "twice the result with half the effort" effect.This paper studies five core issues through literature, study investigation andexperimentation: what is the valence-species diagram? Why do we need valence-species diagram to review elements and compounds? Which elements and their compounds can be applied to valence-species diagram? How to guide the students to draw the valence-species diagram and improve the mastery of the knowledge of the elements and compounds by using the valence-species diagram? What is the effect of the valence-species diagram on the review of the elements and compounds?The research paper is divided into five parts: The first part is the introduction, which mainly describes the research background, the research objectives and content, the research meaning,and the research methods. The second part is the literature review,which elaborates the six core concept "elements and compounds", "review", "valence","species","diagram", "valence-species diagram", in addition, it reviews the research status of elements and compounds and the valence-species diagram graphs. The third part,according to own knowledge structure and interpretation of the syllabus and exam notes,analyze out the element which is suitable for the use of valence-species diagram. The fourth part is the teaching practice and effect evaluation, the valence-species diagram is used for the review of the knowledge of elements and compounds for the college entrance examination, and the effect was evaluated by questionnaire. The fifth part is the conclusion of the analysis of the previous analysis, sorting out the research conclusions and the lack of research.Taking valence-species diagram as a tool to review the knowledge of elements and compounds for the college entrance examination, students' ability of chemistry learning and the ability to analyze and solve practical problems by using chemical knowledge can be improved to some extent. Students can infer other things from one fact, no matter how strange or familiar, can start from these two angles of species and valence, thus can calmly face the college entrance examination.
