In China,English language teaching is regarded as foreign language teaching,therefore the language environment is less for students to input English language.Most students do not have the opportunity to listen and speak,and they input English language through reading,so reading is very important in English learning.Teacher tends to translate passages for students in traditional reading teaching,and he pays more attention to the explanation of grammar and vocabularies,consequently the design of reading activity and students' reading skills are ignored.Multiple intelligences theory(MI theory)proposes that every student has eight intelligences,therefore teacher should care about students' strong intelligences and apply a range of methods to organize activities.This thesis designs English reading teaching modes based on MI theory,and testify the effectiveness of English reading modes based on MI theory.According to above research background,the research questions are proposed as follows:(1)Can reading teaching based on MI Theory increase students' English learning motivation?(2)Can reading teaching based on MI Theory improve students' English reading proficiency?The tests and questionnaires are used in this experiment,and the author carries out the research in two parallel classes of Panshan Senior High School for one term.Class 3 Grade 1 with 40 students is Experimental Class and Class 4 Grade 1 with 40 students is Control Class.MI based English reading teaching is applied in EC,while traditional English reading teaching method is used in CC.The pre-test,post-test and questionnaires are used to collect data and SPSS is used to analyze data.Based on data analysis of this research,the conclusions are presented as follows: MI based English reading teaching mode is more effective than traditional reading teaching method in increasing students' learning motivation,and improving students' reading proficiency.Some limitations exist in the process of applying this theory,therefore,more attention should be paid in future research.
