Mandarin and related teaching has a long history in South Africa.As the Basic Education Department,listed Mandarin as one of the Second additional language in 2016,the study about Mandarin teaching and its localization become emergent.By visiting the manger and professional in Wine-Land district,from macro-level introduced the status quo of the Mandarin teaching in South Africa.Including the developing of language policy in education,the comparison with Home Language,First Additional Language and Second Additional Language,along with some basic acknowledge of the teaching resource and pedagogy as well as typical students group.In order to make this study deeper in the resistance in developing Mandarin teaching,this study conducted a general survey with two schools have the most stereotype student group in Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University.With this survey we tested 3 hypothesizes,and shows a great potential in the developing of Mandarin.However,the survey also shows current Mandarin teaching and its localization is not compatible with the developing.With different aspect,we can name the possibility for the developing of Mandarin,but if the Second Additional Language course want to take advantage of that,related study and localization is extremely urgent.Hopefully,by the analyze made in this study,provides some directions to effort for the developing of Mandarin as a second additional language in South Africa,also draw more attention of the professionals to deepen and extend my findings.
