The application of project teaching in the domestic secondary schools has just begun. There are few studies on project teaching of English in high school. All the research about project section of the textbook is for Oxford version, not a single one for the PEP version.Besides, even the research for the Oxford version is limited in the questionnaire survey simply to feedback this section in the actual teaching of the situation, without text analysis of the project section of the textbook. The author thinks it is necessary to carry out a detailed text analysis of the project section of the textbook for PEP version and to carry out a questionnaire survey on the impact of project teaching on students' English learning. The main research methods in this paper are text analysis and questionnaire survey. This paper expounds the background of project teaching, the definition of project teaching and the research questions and research methods. The literature review is conducted from the following four aspects:principles of project designing, teaching procedures, impact on students' English learning and the problems facing them. The first chapter elaborates the development process of project teaching in foreign language teaching application. The second chapter focuses on text analysis which displays the topic of each project and the corresponding unit and compares the project topic with the corresponding unit topic in the five books from compulsory module 1 to module 5.At the same time, the teaching mode of each project section is compiled, and the students' language skills and abilities involved are analyzed based on this teaching mode. Finally, the author compares the skills and abilities involved in project teaching with the corresponding the requirements of New Curriculum Standard. The third chapter focuses on the survey of practical teaching. The author uses the model of the Likert five scale to compile the scale of "the effect of project teaching on students' English learning" in an adapted and self-compiled way. Before and after analyzing the questionnaire results, the validity and reliability of the questionnaire were tested with SPSS 20 to ensure the validity of the questionnaire. The paper analyzes the influence of project teaching on students'English learning in detail according to the data collected from questionnaire survey.Chapter 4 analyzes and summarizes the overall situation of project teaching with internal text analysis and external questionnaire survey. The conclusion summarizes the important findings and suggestions of this paper, and analyzes the limitations of the article.Through the text analysis,it can be seen that project section of the students'workbook is quite different from other sections of the book.As for abilities,it focuses on students' cooperative ability, ability of collecting information. As for language skills,it focuses equally on each language skill. It meets the requirements of level 7 of New Curriculum Standard.Correspondingly, through the analysis of questionnaire survey, the result is nearly the same as the text analysis. It focuses more on students' motivation,self-learning ability, cooperative learning ability, ability of collecting information and self-learning ability. It emphasizes the process of learning instead of simply scores of final exam.It is in accordance with the requirements of New Curriculum Standard. The positive effect of project teaching on students' English learning is verified by the result of questionnaire. There is no doubt that the role of project teaching is worth being enhanced by both the textbook designers and teachers. It should be remembered that it's better to try the way to provide audio learning materials for students to collect information and enhance their listening skills. It is also important that it's better to make the project topic the same as the unit topic.
