MTI Program In China’s Mainland:Achievements,Weaknesses And Suggested Solutions

In recent years,MTI has been a popular option for those who want to have further study.MTI is the abbreviation of "Master of Translation and Interpreting"-a professional master’s program set up in 2007.MTI program has made great progress since its establishment in 2007.Up to December 2015,there have been 206 universities granted to MTI cultivation in the China`s Mainland.MTI faces not only for the language major graduates,it also provides opportunities for people would or will engage in translation study and practice.As a newly established program,the MTI program is facing great opportunities and challenges.The economic development leads to an increase demands of high level translation talents,at the same time,a series of problems in such aspects as the enrolment requirements,length of study,credits,courses,assessments and faculties are still need to be adjusted and improved.America,British,Hong Kong,and Taiwan have a strong history of training vocational translation talents.It is meaningful to borrow insights and experiences of them for reference to modify the deficiencies in China`s MTI program.Therefore,we can sum up their referential experiences for our weak links and improve the present situation accordingly.The purpose of this thesis lies in summarization and reflection as well as contemplation and improving.With the help of Citespace,the thesis reviews the MTI researches included in the CNKI database mainly from three aspects: the previous research;the high impact articles and authors;the research fronts and research focus,aiming to have a review of the achievements in MTI program.By conducting sampling surveys of instructional objectives,curriculum,faculties and other related issues,the author means to explore the weakness of MTI training.By summarizing the successful experiences of international experiences in the above-mentioned aspects,the author makes an attempt to learn their valuable experiences to remedy the problems existing in MTI program.In the last part of this thesis,the author puts forward some suggestions,which include improving the admission requirements,adjust the curriculum to the industry demands,optimize the current credit system,enforce the employment preparation,enhance the cooperation system,etc.
