In this study,we intend to find the characteristics of teacher's identity,the factors that affect the teacher's identity,and the situation of English teachers' identity through literature review on identity.This paper attempts to analyze the overall level of English teachers' identity in middle schools in Hanzhong city by employing the theory of teacher's identity,teacher discourse analysis and so on,and qualitative and quantitative research.We conducted a semi-structured interview and questionnaire to analyze the overall level of English teachers' identity among 115 English teachers in 5 middle schools in Hanzhong City.We examined the differences of English teachers' identity in different gender and age,the situation of English teachers' identity,the main affecting factors and existing problems,the characteristics of English teachers' identity and the causes of identity crisis.This paper makes a statistical and critical discourse analysis of the questionnaire and interview,finding that although the middle school English teachers have been experiencing identity crisis to some degree,the overall level of teacher identity is high and relatively stable.It is hoped that this study can provide references for the study of English teacher education.In the past ten years,teachers' professional development has attracted much attention.Compared with other aspects in teacher professionalization,teacher's identity plays an important role in teaching.Teacher development and curriculum reform have become the important issues of educational reform,but the main executor of curriculum reform is the teaching staff.Teacher's identity has often been ignored in the evaluation of teachers,Therefore,some teachers lose their enthusiasm,initiative and even the sense of responsibility.The research shows that teacher's identity is a developing and dynamic process.The construction of teacher's identity goes throughout the process of teachers' professional development.Identity is developing and changing constantly and is realized by themselves and others and gradually deepening.Their teaching career will be accompanied by the whole process of the construction of identity.Therefore,we should analyze teachers' life from different perspectives to understand teacher's identity.Teacher's identity is closely related to his own scope of knowledge,personal experience,social environment and the values he holds.
