Research On The Relationship Of Parenting Styles,Coping Style And Anxiety In Junior High School Students

Abstract/Summary:
PurposeThis research study the status and interrelations of parenting styles,coping style and anxiety status of junior high school students in Ningbo Yinzhou District.In order to provide suggestions of mental health for bureau of education.MethodStratified random sampling was used to select 6 junior high schools.And 2 classes of each school’s grades were randomly selected.A total of 36 classes were investigated,1022 students.Parenting style scales,coping style scales,and SCARED were used to investigate.SPSS 19.0 was used for statistical testing and intermediary analysis.Results1.In the junior high schools students’ parenting styles,the paternal and maternal factor of warmth(46.58±11.31,52.56±11.16)was less than the norm.The paternal and maternal factor of warmth(47.94±11.27,54.12±11.03)of girls was obviously higher than boys(45.04±11.17,50.8±11.05)(p<0.01).The paternal punishment of boys(19.71±6.73)was higher than girls(17.17±5.08)(p<0.01).The paternal over-interference(10.72±4.64)and the maternal over-interference/over-protection(24.61±6.88)of boys was higher than girls(9.18±4.41,24.61±6.88)(p<0.05).The maternal severe punishment(13.62±4.60)of boys was higher than girls(12.12±3.74)(p<0.05).2.The tendency of the coping styles the junior high schools students inclined to adopt were as follow:problem-solving or emotions-venting(70.45%)、help-seeking(72.8%),endure(69.67%),escaping(63.21%),fantasy/denied(44.62%),reasonable explanation(22.50%).The boys’ problem-solving,help-seeking(19.64±3.51,17.84±3.46),was less than girls’(20.78±2.89,19.08±3.20)(p<0.01).The boys’escaping(7.89±2.03),is higher than girls’(7.27±1.78)(p<0.01).3.The total score of SCARED of boys and girls(20.45±13.43,22.40±11.86)were higher than the norm.The Somatization/horror(4.39±4.13).GAD(6.02±3.60)、SAD(4.51±2.95)、social anxiety(3.33±1.93)、school anxiety(1.24±1.56)were higher than the norm.The girls’ SAD(4.76±2.93)、social anxiety(3.45±1.94)were higher than the boys(3.95±2.95,3.06±1.89).The detection rate of anxiety symptoms was 20.8%(22.9%of girls,18.5%of boys).4.Endure、escaping、emotions-venting、Fantasy/denied is higher in anxiety group(p<0.001).5.Paternal,maternal warmth had positive correlation with coping stytle of problem-solving,and paternal,maternal severe/punishment had negative correlation.Anxiety total scores,paternal,maternal warmth had positive correlation with help-seeking.Paternal,maternal warmth had positive correlation with reasonable explanation,and maternal severe/punishment had negative correlation.Anxiety total scores,paternal,maternal severe/punishment,rejection/denied,paternal overprotection,maternal over-interference/overprotection had positive correlation with endure.Anxiety total scores,paternal,maternal severe/punishment,rejection/denied,paternal over-interference,maternal over-interference/overprotection had positive correlation with escaping,nd paternal warmth had negative correlation.Anxiety total scores,paternal,maternal severe/punishment,rejection/denied,paternal overprotection had positive correlation with emotions-venting.Anxiety total scores,paternal,maternal severe/punishment,rejection/denied,paternal overprotection,over-interference,maternal over-interference/overprotection had positive correlation with Fantasy/denied,and maternal warmth had negative correlation.8、Paternal,maternal warmth is predictable to problem-solving、help-seeking,reasonable explanation.Paternal,maternal rejection/denied,is predictable to endure、escaping、emotions-venting、fantasy/denied.6.Escaping is the mediator when paternal,maternal warmth exerts its effect on the anxiety.Fantasy/denied is the mediator when paternal warmth exerts its effect on the anxiety.Endure,escaping,emotions-venting,fantasy/denied is the mediator when paternal,maternal severe/punishment rejection/denied exerts its effect on the anxiety.Escaping,fantasy/denied is the mediator when paternal,maternal over-interference exerts its effect on the anxiety.emotions-venting、Fantasy/denied is the mediator when paternal overprotection exerts its effect on the anxiety.Conclusions1.The family is not warm enough to understand their children.And the family,whether father or mother,is warmer to girls,and more severe to boys.The father is more likely to deny the boy and the father’s over-protection is higher to boy than to girl.2.The middle school students’ most commonly used coping style is problem-solving.When facing the pressure,the students tend to use:problem solving,emotions venting,support seeking,endure,and escaping.Different gender are different in the problem-solving,support seeking,endure,escaping.Boys tend to adopt the"emotional-focused",and girls are more inclined to use "problem-focused."3,The five subscales were all higher than the norm,indicating that the students’anxious is serious.4.Through the analysis of parenting styles,coping style and the anxiety:First,parenting styles will affect the choice of coping style.Second,the parenting style will affect the children’s anxiety state,and the children’s coping style will also affect their anxiety state.Finally,coping style is the mediator,when parenting style exerts its effect on the anxiety.5.There may be FEAR effect exist in middle school students’ family.
