| To learn English well,it is necessary for students to master a certain number of words which is fundamental for other skills.However,plenty of students find memorizing words is quite hard,let alone use words properly.Interest is the basis of learning a language.The aim of applying word games to teaching is to improve teaching quality and offer psychological support as word games can transform the boring language learning into lively and interesting activities.Given the priority of teaching quality,games should be so designed as to be closely related to teaching content.To testify whether word games have positive impact on students’ vocabulary study,the author chose two parallel classes from Tianlin No.3 Middle School in Shanghai and carried out an experiment that lasted three months.The whole procedure goes like this.First,the author conducted interviews and surveys to investigate the existing problems in the vocabulary teaching and learning in junior high schools.Then she used the word game teaching method in vocabulary teaching.Finally,the author modified the teaching plan,collected and analyzed the data.The findings of this study indicate that teaching with word games,as an effective teaching method,can not only stimulate students’ interest in vocabulary learning,but also develop their English at the pragmatic level.It lays a solid foundation for students’ further study.Meanwhile,it is feasible for English teaching in junior high schools and is worthy to be promoted. |
