Deep learning is the process of learning for transfer in authentic settings,which allows the learner to develop a set of six interrelated competencies: mastering rigorous academic content,learning how to think critically and solve problems,working collaboratively,communicating effectively,directing one's own learning,and developing academic mindsets.As an effective learning strategy,deep learning has become a focus of attention for many researchers in recent years.To adopt the technique in our classroom teaching,however,is still facing a lot of challenges.Problem-based learning,as one of the most effective approaches ensures that students are engaged,motivated to persist,and developing key skills.This paper examines how the problem-based learning can be used to facilitate deep learning and the effects and outcomes achieved by problem-based learning.With the literature review of deep learning and problem-based learning at home and abroad,the paper proposes the concept of problem-based deeper learning,with detailed analysis on theories about the connotation,characteristic and process of the two categories,and tries to reveal the correlation between deep learning and problem-based learning.In addition,based on the learning features of high school students,a model of problem-based deeper learning has been constructed in accordance with the teaching goal of “word processing and graph processing” in chapter 3 of information technology course,and meanwhile,it is supported by a broader system of assessments,including summative tests,to measure and impact student learning.Finally,through a series of research methods such as questionnaires,observations,and testings etc,a 16-week teaching practice was conducted to a group of grade 1 students in high school,so as to examine the effectiveness of the problem-based deeper learning,and the conclusion was drawn that problem-based deeper learning has achieved remarkable results in helping students master the academic content,analyze problems and develop solutions,and making positive change in the students' attitudes toward learning.Hence,problem-based deeper learning is feasible and effective in the information technology course teaching.
