The importance of English, as a communication language is self-evident. The purpose of English teaching is to enable students to communicate and to improve the comprehensive language ability. Understanding what one hears in language communication is a primary issue to be resolved. It is also the premise of smooth communication; it also determines the importance of English listening teaching. In today's senior high school listening teaching, teachers generally use the traditional teaching mode, and the effect leaves much to be desired; in addition, students' individual difference also increases the difficulties of listening teaching; thus, the students' learning is not good. Therefore, how to use the appropriate model for listening teaching is a question that high school English teachers need to think about. LEVEL pattern, under the recessive hierarchical teaching mode, aims at the use of different levels of students as the research object. By using LEVEL pattern to teach different levels of students in listening teaching, creating different teaching goals, choosing suitable listening materials for different levels of students, creating real contexts, it fully arouses students' interest in listening comprehension, improves students' level of listening, and encourages all students to make progress together.Based on Krashen i+1 Hypothesis and Affective Filter Hypothesis, mastery learning theory, the zone of proximal development theory, this paper tries to build LEVEL pattern (Linkage, Exactitude, View, Elaboration, and Lengthening). And it aims at, in comparison with the traditional teaching methods, finding out whether the pattern can improve students' listening interest in learning, whether it can improve the students' learning motivation, learning strategy, and whether it can improve the students' listening ability in different levels. The teaching experiment uses two classes in Grade one in Quanzhou Nanan Guoguang middle school as the experimental objects. To make a contrast, it uses LEVEL pattern in the experimental class, but the original teaching mode in the control class. Through collecting data of the test before and after the listening tests, the questionnaire and the individual interview, using SPSS statistics for analysis, the experimental results show that LEVEL pattern in listening teaching can arouse the enthusiasm of students in different levels, make the students be more willing to listen in class, and help lay the foundation of independent learning of students in the future; besides, with interest as the starting point for the listening, students are more active. And it also can make most students master the listening learning strategies. On the whole, students' listening ability has been improved, especially for students in C level.
