Teachers' knowledge reserves are at the core position in their professional development in view that teaching is a specialized profession. Inequality is an very important part in middle school mathematics teaching as it is an important way to describe the inequality. Accordingly, the requirements for teachers'understanding of inequality are higher. Thus, it's crucial for pre service teachers, the fresh blood, to have a good knowledge of inequality.Firstly, this thesis did a research and an analysis on the situation of teaching and learning of inequality by literature review from domestic to abroad. Secondly, the questionnaire method is adopted to test pre service teachers'mastering and understanding on the property, method, deduction approach of inequality and New Curriculum Standards in respect of inequality. Then, the author extracted three research questions through analyzing the result of questionnaire survey. They can be seen as follows:?The understanding level of inequality knowledge for pre service mathematics teachers; ?The analysis of diversity in the group of mastering and understanding on inequality;?Summarization of the pre service mathematics teachers'main pitfalls on the understanding of inequality, and attempt to give strategies and teaching advises on promoting inequality knowledge in senior high school stage. Lastly, the author gives some suggestions as follows. First, enhance the self-directed learning of pre service mathematics teachers. Second, add related courses in normal major and normal schools as to improve pre service teachers'abilities, which involve professional knowledge and teaching practice.
