The rapidly developing society has brought China more and more frequent contact with other countries.English,as an essential medium for communication,has also become more and more important.And in The National English Curriculum for Senior issued by the Ministry of Education,it’s mentioned that English skills include listening,speaking,reading,writing and integrated use of the four basic skills.Thus,English writing,one of the four basic language skills,has attracted more and more attention.Besides,The National English Curriculum for Senior also puts forward specific requirements for English writing.Therefore,it is quite necessary to help high school students to improve their English writing ability.In practice,students’ English writing is far from satisfactory.In the process of writing,there are a variety of errors.As a result,the author of this study,attempts to make a preliminary analysis of this phenomenon.First of all,the author collected and sorted out different errors in the English compositions of students in Dujiangyan Bayi Juyuan High School mainly from their monthly exams.Errors in their ordinary practice were mentioned,too.In this paper,the author mainly analyzed three types of errors,that is,lexical errors,grammatical errors and discourse errors.And then the author conducted questionnaires both to teachers and to students,in order to get a better understanding of the current situation of the English writing in this school.Finally,with the aim of improving high school students’ English writing,the author,based on the analysis of errors and questionnaires,provided some suggestions,for example,to raise students’ motivation to write,to enlarge their language input,to compare English with Chinese,to enhance their basic language knowledge,to strengthen writing training and practice,to master strategies of error correction and so on.The author of this thesis aims to provide some practical and useful suggestions for teachers and students in high schools in the aspect of English writing.And at the same time,the author also hopes that further researches can get hints from this paper,so that more efficient teaching and learning methods may be explored.
