“English curriculum standard” issued by the Ministry of Education in 2011 stresses clearly that modern foreign language teaching should focus on the process of language learning, strengthen the practicality of language learning, make the students feel, experience and understand the authentic language in the context in order to apply the language. It required the students' listening performance to reach the following level when they are in Grade Eight.Hierarchical teaching of listening of English Curriculum Standard in the junior high school is following: understand the familiar topic of paragraph at the close to normal speech rate, identify the subject and get the main idea;understand the developing plot of a simple story and the main characters and events;complete the tasks according to the instructions;understand the elementary English teaching program on radio and TV.However,at present, there is a certain gap between education ideas or teaching methods and the goal in some schools and some teachers.Students are still passive listeners in class and rarely have the opportunity to acquire knowledge through their own experience.Experiential teaching is a learner-centered teaching method based on John Dewey's philosophy of education,Piaget's constructivism theory and David Kolb's theory of experiential learning, which encourages students to find out the law of language, master the language knowledge and skills step by step, improve the ability of language application through the experience, practice, participation, inquiry and cooperation.Since the middle and late last century, experiential teaching has been widely used in various levels of education and teaching, has formed a relatively mature theoretical system and achieved good practice results. This thesis aims to apply experiential teaching approach into the listening teaching of junior high school in order to explore its feasibility and effectiveness in listening teaching.Eighty-seven subjects in Grade Two come from No.25 Middle School in Hohhot,forty-three in Class Three(Experimental Class),forty-four in Class One(Control Class).Experiential teaching in listening teaching is used in the Experimental Class.Traditional listening teaching approach is applied to the Control Class. The experiment focuses on whether students' listening performance and learning interest will be improved with experiential teaching in listening teaching in junior high school. The research includes two listening tests and interviews and SPSS 18.0 is used to analyze the data. The thesis covers five chapters, including introduction, literature review, methodology, data collection and analysis, and conclusion. At last the author shows that it's a significant attempt to apply experiential teaching, produces positive force in students' listening scores and stimulates students' learning interest and fulfilling students' “learning by doing”.At the same time, the author summarizes major findings including pedagogical implications and suggestions for teachers and students.Based on the above research, the following suggestions are proposed.Firstly, according to the actual situation of the students, the teacher sets up different levels of activities.Secondly, combining listening teaching with other skills, the communicative nature of listening comprehension is embodied.Thirdly, considering the validity and reliability of the research, time duration, class sizes, collective lesson preparation and evaluation criterion should be paid more attention.
