In Chinese textbooks for junior high school,the predominant genre is invariably modern prose;therefore,taking advantage of the opportunity to work as an intern in Wenzhou M middle school from September 2016 to January 2017,the author conducted research on problems in modern Chinese prose reading teaching.The research is based on the requirements for modern Chinese prose reading teaching introduced in “The standard of the Chinese curriculum in compulsory education(2011 edition)”,and the principal research methods are literature review,classroom observation,interviews,and homework examination.Middle school Chinese modern prose reading teaching occupies a fundamental position in middle school Chinese teaching;consequently the author attempts to find out the problems in Chinese modern prose reading teaching,and accordingly come up with some solutions,aiming to provide suggestions for better improving Chinese teaching.The thesis consists of three parts.The first part probes into the problems in modern Chinese prose reading teaching in Wenzhou M middle school.By means of conducting surveys,observing classroom performance,and interviewing teachers and students,the author discovers three problems;that is,teachers neglect emotional teaching,teachers ignore authors' individual style,students do not form the habit of viewing things from multiple perspectives.The second part investigates the reasons for the three problems raised in the first part.It is through analysis of middle school Chinese lessons,discussion,and classroom observation that five reasons are proposed.More specifically,students are weak in basic knowledge and teaching concepts are outdated,teachers lack systematic reading of reading materials,students' learning experience and life experience are insufficient,teachers adopt unitaryteaching method.By way of classroom practices,literature review,and discussion,three solutions are proposed in the third part.First of all,teachers should change their outmoded teaching concepts and attach great importance to emotional teaching.Secondly,teachers should read teaching materials systematically and take author's individual style into account.Thirdly,teachers should teach various reading methods and activate students' thought.
