To cultivate and practice socialist core values has being an major event of current education system and to set an moral example and cultivate talents since the 18 th Communist Party of China National Congress.Universities are where the higher education of our country take place.The spirit of university is the philosophy and believe formed in the process of its development,the epitome of China's spirit culture and value standard,an important part of socialist core values,the values that teachers and students accepted,the core of a university's culture,the soul of a university,the symbol and integration of the time of scientific culture.China's universities and western universities have obvious differences in many aspects due to the differences in historical development period and ideologies between two sides.This thesis takes the spirits of China's universities and western universities as a clue to know the origins,development,features and functions of them,and to further study their common grounds and differences so that beneficial advice for these universities can be brought up.This thesis adopts the method of comparison and analysis and discusses the following aspects.First,this thesis does a research of the spirits between China's universities and western universities to know their development,especially the development,features and functions of their spirits.Second,compare the spirits to find out their common grounds and differences and the reasons for this phenomenon.Last,to bring up some advice to refine China's universities' spirits,to find out whether western universities' spirits are suitable for China's universities,to learn from them if it is suitable and to cultivate the universities' spirits with Chinese characteristics.
