| The homework which is selected as example and put up on the wall for exhibition is usually that with good handwriting. Does it mean that the graphology has an effect on academic achievements? There have been a lot of researches on graphology but few of them focused on this issue. So the present research tried to probe into the correlation of mind, graphology and English achievements. Handwriting and Raven’s IQ data of 33 subjects were collected from senior one students of Fuzhou Foreign Language School. The English achievement data were also adopted, that is, the average of three English tests. According to the relevant theories 18 operational variables of graphology were selected for the analysis. Then 9 well-trained experimenters (raters) participated in the evaluation of the handwriting variables. The result showed:1) The total score was positively correlated to joined-up writing, and it had a significant negative correlation with the left page deviation distance (at the 0.01 level).2) The listening score was positively correlated to joined-up writing, and it was negatively correlated to the slant letter.3) The reading score was positively correlated to joined-up writing and it was negatively correlated to the slant letter (at the 0.01 level).4) The grammar score was positively correlated to joined-up writing and it was negatively correlated to the left page deviation distance. Though there were some interesting findings in this study, it was just an exploratory study. Except handwriting, there are a great number of other factors that may influence the English achievements. It’s a complicated work to clarify the direct and indirect relationship of them. |
