Independent College is a special mode of Chinese higher education system, and is an optimization of modern education resources。 It effectively promotes the improvement of the structure of the higher education system and the quality of higher education。 Physical education is regarded as an important part of quality education The implementation of physical education activities is not only related to the development of students’ physical fitness, but also to the strengthening of the students’good psychological quality and will。 Therefore, sports education has enjoyed an increasing popularity among people。 Public physical course is a basic curriculum in sports education system of the Independent College。 The effective conduct of public sports curriculum among sports professionals and non-sports students should be ensured, so as to provide a solid foundation for the subsequent teaching activities.In this paper, the author reviewed relevant literatures on the education system of Independent Colleges and public physical education. Based on current research findings of the physical education theories, the author investigates and analyzes the status quo of public physical education of five Beijing Independent Colleges, by using document analysis, interviews, questionnaires, and mathematical statistics etc. The five Independent Colleges include:Kede College of Capital Normal University; Canvard College, Beijing Technology and Business University; Century College, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications; Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology; and Sino-Swiss School of Hotel Administration, Beijing International Studies University,, In this study, the three main modules examine the current situations of teaching management, the PE teachers group, and the students’present learning situation。 The result indicates that the five main factors influencing public sports curriculum of the Independent Colleges are the attitude and level of emphasis of the school leaders; the construction of the teaching staff; the establishment of the venues and facilities; the amount of investment for sports; and the development of the materials for public sports education。 Combined with the demands for talents cultivation within the Chinese context of quality education, and recognizing the new course reformation as the guiding ideology, the following recommendations are proposed with regard to problems found in this study:we should give more emphasis on public sports curriculum in order to improve sports administration system of Independent Colleges; enhance the qualities of the teaching staff, as well as enriching teaching resources; encourage sports curriculum in Independent colleges and push forward teaching reformation; transform public sports course in Independent Colleges to optional sports course; and help students form a good habit of doing lifelong sports.
