| One of the consequences of the combination of science and technology is Data Journalism, which is born during the declining of newspapers. Data Journalism is regarded as the saver of traditional news sector, as a result, both the academic and industrial area attach great importance to it. While statistics, especially the statistical analysis technique is commonly used in news reports, more specifically, in data journalism. More importantly, their application is increasing quickly both in depth and in breadth which deserves the attention from the academy and news industry.Data news first arose in the foreign countries and now it has a good development there. Given this situation, it's a better choice for us to learn the academic research of data news from abroad. It's obvious that our research of data news, both theoretical research and industry application, is relatively backward compared with the West. This article selected Five Thirty Eight.com, one U.S. news website, as the subject, with the typical data news reports applying statistical methods, trying to analyze the news work and understand the application of statistical analysis methods in these works. By exploring when statistical methods entered into the news industry, how their different cognition towards news report,their different news making skills impact the news industry and what the changes,disputes and problems along with this.The author tries to find some helpful experiences for Chinese news industry based on the advantages and disadvantages of statistical analysis methods in the foreign data news reports. |
