Vocabulary plays a basic role in language learning. The Ordinary Senior High English Curriculum Standard has a higher requirement for senior high students' vocabulary from2,000 words to 3,500 words. And senior high students' vocabulary learning has encountered problems such as small vocabulary size, time consuming with low efficiency and anxiety of memorizing words. However, traditional teaching methods can't meet demands of the present situation.According to the requirement of Ordinary Senior High English Curriculum Standard,English newspapers have become auxiliary resources in classroom teaching due to their quality of being authentic, efficient and updated. Therefore, they are indispensable parts of curriculum resources.Since Nagy,Herman & Anderson(1985)put forward the definition of “incidental vocabulary acquisition”,a great number of studies from home and abroad have been explored on factors of incidental vocabulary acquisition in second language reading.Among different aspects, effects of reading tasks, notes and frequency have received much concern, but effects of output haven't gained enough attention by scholars. The author attempts to undertake a related research on theoretical basis of output hypothesis and aims to find out an effective way to help senior high students learn vocabulary and improve their retention as well.It attempts to testify three research questions:(1)Can senior high students acquire vocabulary in English newspapers reading?(2)What is the difference between output activities of the experiment class and reading comprehensions of the control class after the research on senior students' vocabulary learning?(3)What is the effect of output activities on incidental vocabulary acquisition in English newspapers reading in senior high school? The author chooses 90 subjects from Dalian No.62 Middle School, and the experiment lasts three months,English Tests — high school edition is chosen as the research material by questionnaires. The subjects are asked to finish different activities after newspapers reading, and then they are tested about incidental vocabulary acquisition. At last, the results of tests are analyzed and summarized. The research attempts to indicate that students can acquire vocabulary by newspapers reading and improve their efficiency of vocabulary learning through questionnaires, interview and comparative analysis of pre-tests and post-tests,further verify that incidental vocabulary acquisition in English newspapers reading based on output hypothesis is available to students' vocabulary learning.Due to the lack of research conditions,it has certain limitations and remains to be constantly perfect in the teaching practice. But,the research has crucial implications for foreign vocabulary teaching and English newspapers teaching.
