The current high school math exercise lessons teaching has many pathological phenomenon. For example, the teaching mode is monotonous and students have to be faced with excessive assignments. In the long term students will form the habit of accepting knowledge passively. Then they will lose confidence and interest in the problem solving. Exercise lessons can help to consolidate knowledge understanding, develop mathematical ability, promote the development of metacognition level and improve students' mathematics performance. Yet the existence of the pathological phenomenon makes exercise lessons totally worthless. So how to improve the teaching of exercise lessons is urgent to be explored.Polya profound problem solving thought and theory is aimed to improve the students'"general literacy" through mathematics teaching. With the education objective "teaching the young to think about," he stressed, "skill is more important than pure knowledge", "Teaching should be teaching students methods and means but not rigid knowledge". Therefore Polya profound problem solving thought and theory is the theory basis and instruction that guides most mathematics teachers to perform their teaching.This research is carried out from two aspects---theory research and practice research. In theory, based on the theory of Polya problem solving, the research will explore the teaching strategy on improving the exercise lessons in high schools:(1) to strengthen the habit of examining the topic, improve the effectiveness before solving the problem;(2) to strengthen the problem solving plan, improve the effectiveness before solving the problem;(3) to strengthen the problem solving monitoring and improve the effectiveness of problem solving;(4) to develop reflection habits and to improve the effectiveness after solving the problem.In practice, the research is based on the Poly problem-solving ideas and some example lessons to explore the significance and value of teaching strategies which are about improving the math exercise lessons in high school.The research shows that the teaching of exercise lessons based on Polya problem solving can be improved in the following aspects:(1)improving the students' problem solving habit;(2)promoting the development of students' metacognition level;(3)improving students' mathematics performance and strengthening their confidence in learning mathematics.
