With the accelerating pace of aging, cities have more serious problems. China is an aging society, and the elder actively activity helps to promote healthy aging process. Settlements acting as the elderly basic spheres of life, so built environment has directly impact on the elderly daily activities. However, our current settlements is that longer-year residential environment can not meet the daily needs of the elderly, the design of new settlements lack of consideration for the elderly population, and Inside and outside the built environment of these settlements are potential factors that restricts the daily activities of the elderly. Thus, planning the built environment to promote the elderly to actively travel and to improve their health, which has become a key issue in the field of planning. Moreover, the impact of the build environment on the elder's physical activity is a focus and difficulty of this subject research.Firstly, bason on domestic and foreign-related research about the built environment and the residents physical activities to understand research status and problems in this area, and to find this research methods and research priorities. Secondly, the subject of case studies selected for the two settlements which located in different lications, and older persons who live in different settlements and analysis of their characteristics and differences about their daily activities that includ shopping, leisure and exercise activities travel, from the facility, roads, land, spatial, four aspects of the built environment has cross-scale effect on elder' activities and identify the reasons for differences. The study found that the elderly who live in different settlements, their activities feature has some similarities, which are most of them carry out activities inside the settlement, and travel mode based on foot. However there are many differences, the factors of point, line, surface, domain has different degrees of impact on the elder's activities. Finally, based on the findings in this paper, we can give some suggestions to design and updates residential environment under the background of the aging society.
