Reserach On Hebei Medical College Freshmen's Personality Characteristics And Influencial Factors

Objectives: Through invastigating the Freshmen of Hebei Medical College by conducting a questionanaire survey, the research is managed to figure out types of freshmen's personality characteristics, and the rela tionship between personality characteristics of college students and envir onments including individual, family, school and society. We would like to provide scientific basis for developing health education of medical colleges to keep the integrity of college students' personalities and mental health.Methods:This research adopts the method of cross-sectional investigation, by selecting 3181 students, who come from main campus of He bei Medical University and Clinical College, to participate the questionnaire survey. A total number of 3200 questionnaries were sent out, while 3057 valid of those have been returned, and the rate of recovery is up to 96%. The content covers Eysenck Personality Questionnaires adults(EPQ), Self-reporting Inventory(SCL-90) and the questionnaire self-created affecting factors for personality types It is conducted by using Epidata3.1 to establish a database, and SPSS21 to describe statistically, analysis of variance, U-test, T-test, spearman correlation, and multivariate regression analyses Ordinal logistic regression to analyze data.Result: 1 Personality characteristics of Medical College Students:(1) Overall, the investigation of the boys 1045(34.2%), girls 2012(65.8%); Han 2912(95.5%), other nationalities 138(4.5%); grade of 2014 2132(69.7%), grade of 2015 925(33.3%); liberal arts 246(8.1%), science 2793(91.9%); clinical medical 1878(61.4%), preventive medicine 277(9.1%), forensic 25(0.8%), nursing 289(9.5%), others 586(19.2%).(2) In the P dimension, there are 391(12.8%) students score surpass 61.5;There are 478(15.6%)students belong to emotional stability and 549?(18.0%)belong to emotional instability; Typical introverted students 273(8.9%), The typical export-oriented students 776(25.4%); In the L dimension, there are 28(0.9%) students score surpass 61.5; The type of intermediate in eatch dimensions are the most, there are 1989(64.9%)students in P dimension, 1357(44.4%)students in N dimension, 1299(42.5%)students in E dimension and 1124(36.8%)in L dimension. 2 Comparison of personality characteristics of college students in different groups:(1) For freshmen who vary in these three personal factors, such as gender, physical conditions, their scores difference on every dimension of EPQ are of statistical significance, when P<0.05. For females the scores in P dimension and E dimension are higher, while for males the scores in L dimension and N dimension are higher. As for the differences of physical conditions, the scores are higher in P and N.(2) While, for five family factors, including different family locations(except dimension P and N), different number of children(except dimension P and N), different family financial situations,(except dimension P), different parents' educational patterns,as well as the relationship among the family members, different freshmen get different scores for each dimension of EPQ, which are statistically significant,when P <0.05. The scores are higher in E dimension concerned on urban students, while higher in L dimension concerned on rural ones. Students in single-child family get higher scores in E dimension, while those who are in three-child family get higher scores in L dimension, Students who have grown up with neglectful patterns have higher scores in P dimension, while those with autocratic patterns have higher scores in N dimension, students with democratic patterns have higher scores in E dimension, and those wit h authoritarian patterns have higher scores in L dimension in L dimension. Students in harmonious family have higher scores in E and L dime nsions.(3) In terms of different college entrance examination scores, theteaching quality(N and L dimensions are excluded), as well as the rela tionship between their teachers, in eatch dimension of EPQ,the scores are statistical significance, with P<0.05, the university entrance exam sc ore of an admission on undergraduate second batch' freshmen highest in P and N dimensions, bachelor degree in the third batch high E, L scores. Students who study in good high school have higher scores in P an d E dimensions. Students who have good relationships with teachers have higher scores in L and E dimensions.(4)Considering two social factors, the degree of the satisfaction of social status and students' social skills, the freshman displays the diversity in every dimension with P<0.05, students who are not satisfied with social status dominate in P and N dimensions, by contrast, students who are satisfied with social status get higher scores in E and L dimensions. Students who are good at social skills are significantly higher in E dimension, while ones who are not higher in P and N dimensions. 3 Relationship between EPQ and SCL-90: E, L dimension and SCL-90 symptoms self-evaluation scale other factors except psychotic are negatively correlated(P<0.05); Dimension and divide each factor, total N and P were positively correlated(P<0.05) 4 Factors affecting personality characteristics :Based on the results of multiple stepwise regression and Ordinal logistics regression analysis,(1)N(nervosity) might be affecting by the anxiety related with inability to concentrate, sexual repression and sexual issues, Physical condition, feeling about much more tasks, father's occupation, wounded pride, appe arance, the psychological pressure influence on the study and life, all kinds of psychological imbalance, sleep quality, suicidal ideas, the degree of care of their appearance.(2)Social skills, to participate in collective activities, hobbies, reliable, the relationship with teachers and classmates, the number of close friends', adaptation to new environment, mother being farmer or worker, falling in love, the degree of care about their appearance, inferiority complex may be the influence factors of E(inside and outside character).(3)Relationship with classmates, frequency in physical exercise activity, the overall evaluation towards mother, suicidal ideas, high school grades, and frequency in dispute with intimate, the social status of satisfaction, a variety of psychological imbalance might be factors affecting P(psychoticism).(4)Sexual repression and related problems of anxiety, consistency in ideal and specialty, all kinds of psychological imbalance, the degree of care appearances, relationship with classmates, social skills, disputation with intimate might be factors affecting L(hide).Conclusion: 1 The scores between 43.3 and 56.7 are more common in each freshman personality dimension, suggesting students with intermediate type are the mainly kinds. While few students' scores greater than 61.5 in L, P and N dimension, which shows that this research has a high reliability, and there are few freshmen with extreme personality in Hebei Medical University. 2 Each deimension of EPQ(E, P, N, L) and each factor of SCL-90 are associtated with total average score, which explains the relationship between personaility characteristics and mental health. While it is highly possible that personality characteristics are affected by multiple factors such as individual, family, school, society, culture and religion, which indicates that an emphasis on integrity of personality characteristics, as well as psychological well-being of college students are of vital significance. It is quite a necessary that we adopt different measures to local conditions. By doing so, can we bring a better future for fostering healthy and positive personality.
