Vocabulary plays a vital role in English learning, and the acquisition of the vocabulary can enhance student's language competence. So vocabulary teaching cannot be ignored. But many studies suggest that the vocabulary is difficult for them to remember and teaching efficiency is low in English vocabulary. Many scholars have made some studies about vocabulary teaching in order to change this situation, and situational teaching approach has been paid more attention.These two questions are involved in this research: First. Can the situational teaching approach increase students' interest and confidence in learning English vocabulary? Second. Can the situational teaching approach improve students' English scores? The research subjects are those students who are from Yulin No.6 Middle School in Shaan'xi Province. Two kinds of instruments are used in this study: questionnaire and test. One questionnaire about students' interest and confidence in English vocabulary learning was handed out to two classes(control class and experimental class) before and after the experiment. Two tests about students' English scores were applied in the two classes before and after the experiment. This research lasted for tenweeks. Data collected was analyzed by SPSS 17.0. The results of analysis indicate that situational teaching approach can increase students' interest and confidence in vocabulary learning, improve students' English scores. Thus situational teaching approach is a feasible vocabulary teaching approach.
