| Mathematical problem solving penetrate all the stages in the primary school, as an important content of the elementary school mathematics teaching, is highly valued in the primary school teaching. Mathematical problem solving is of vital importance to cultivate elementary students’ mathematics accomplishment, interest in math’s study and ability to solve practical problems. And through the mathematical problem solving also can cultivate elementary school students’ spirit of studying hard, strong willpower and independent thinking and other fine quality. So it is worthy of research and exploration on how to effectively carry out the mathematical problem solving teaching in the primary school. This article takes the “travel problems” of the elementary school grade five and six as an example, and further studies on elementary school mathematics problem solving teaching. The paper is based on the mathematical problem solving related teaching theory, through investigating the present situation about travel problem teaching in three primary school of the Hohhot, analyzing the reasons of the existing problems, and puts forward the corresponding teaching strategies, hoping to be helpful to the elementary school mathematics teaching.The article is divided into five parts, the concrete contents are introduced as follows:The first part: introduction. Discussing the purpose of the paper’s research, its meaning, and the current research on the teaching of mathematical problem solving. Introducing its research ideas, research methods and innovation of this article.The second part: summarizing the elementary school mathematics problem solving teaching. Firstly, introducing the historical evolution process of the mathematical problem solving; Secondly, defining the related concepts of mathematical problem solving; At last, systematically elaborated the elementary school mathematics problem solving teaching Which is related to the education theory.The third part: the present situation and the teaching strategy of the elementary school mathematics problem solving teaching. Trying to start from the higher grades of the elementary school, by issuing “travel problem” test, test sampling analysis, interviewing teachers and students and class view and so on to deeply understand and teaching present situation of “travel problem” solving in elementary school, and in view of the current situation, analyzing the reasons from two dimensions of teachers and students. Based on the related teaching theory and the author’s practice experiences, putting forward teaching strategies of the elementary school “travel problem” solving.The fourth part: the teaching design and case analysis of “travel problem”.
