Objective To investigate the mental health status of nursing college female students, especially the anxiety and depression situation, and the impact of coping style on anxiety and depression, taking related suggestions measures, providing support for the education of psychological health, and improving the level coping ability and mental health.Methods A total of 890 nursing college female students were randomly selected in one of the two schools in An Hui province, Recycling effective questionnaire 875 copies, filling out the questionnaire on their coping styles and social support. Simple and easy way of self-reported questionnaire, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and depression self-rating scale (SDS) were used to investigate the situation of anxiety and depression.Results ①The phenomenon of anxiety and depression was generally existent in college female students, of all investigative population, anxiety accounted for 32.8%, depression accounted for 39.9%, of which the share of mild depression was 31.2%, moderate depression share was 7.8%, the share of major depression was 0.9%. The psychological health problems of anxiety and depression have become important risk factors damaging nursing college female students’physical and mental healthy. Score of anxiety and depression was associated with nationality, and anxiety was also related to whether they could adapt to the collective life, grade and classmates relation. ②Coping style was associated with a variety of influence factors. Both positive coping style and negative coping styles were related to nationality and whether they could adapt to the collective life. Besides, positive coping style was also related to grades, residence, school record, father’s cultural degree, student relationships, which were not related to the negative coping style ③ Coping style had a major impact on mental health, positive coping style had negative correlation with anxiety scores (r=-0.153, P<0.01), negative coping style had positive correlation with anxiety scores (r=0.232, P<0.01), depression score had a positive correlation with coping styles(r=0.161, P<0.01). ④Controlling the other influence factors, anxiety scores had positive correlation with depression score and negative coping style by partial correlation analysis, depression score had a positive correlation with negative coping style. ⑤Eventually negative coping style, grade, positive coping style, nationality, adapt to the collective life entered the anxiety score equation; negative and positive coping style, nation, student relationships entered the depression score equation after being used multiple stepwise regression analysis.Conclusion Coping styles had a predicted effect on nursing college female students mental health. Therefore the education of colleges and universities should pay more attention to mental health problems, especially to ethnic minority girls, and helping them adapt to the collective life, the mainland culture environment and the learning environment, carrying out targeted training approaches and measures to encourage and guide students to solve problems in normal life and learning process, taking active, mature coping ways helping each other to improve the ability of deal with setbacks, difficulties and strategies, rather than choosing negative and passive coping styles of self-blame, fantasy, retreat and rationalization were unfavorable to students’ mental health. Accordingly the situation of nursing college female students’ anxiety and depression, the level of psychological health could be improved in the future.
