An Analysis Of The Features Of The Third-wave Feminist Movement In The United States

In the 1990 s,the third-wave feminist movement in the United States began to emerge.Unlike the previous two waves of feminist movement,it adopts more moderate means and pays more attention to women who are at the intersection of oppression.It values cooperation between feminist movement and other human rights movements at both global and local levels.At the same time,the third-wave feminist movement focuses on impacting social thoughts and is moving toward a more inclusive and diversified end.This thesis believes that there are three major reasons why the third-wave feminist movement is having such features.First,the objective of the first two waves of feminist movement is to gain equality for American women in the political and legislative arenas and enable women to become equal participants in the society.As a result,they have basically transformed American women from housewives into active participants in the American society,which has laid a solid foundation for the third-wave feminist movement and enabled it to focus on changing social thoughts.Second,as the previous two waves of feminist movement were both dominated by white middle-class women,other groups of women and their interests were neglected,which made it necessary for the third-wave feminist movement to focus on intersectionality.Third,the socioeconomic and cultural context has been changing since the end of the second wave of feminist movement.In the era of globalization,feminists appreciate global cooperation while also respect different situations of women.In the information society,advanced science and technology have given feminists a platform to express themselves in a more moderate way.At the same time,the mass media,as an important cultural factor,also plays a great role in deconstructing and rebuilding the images of American women.
