It is more convenient than ever for people to transmit and express thoughts through internet than ever, thanks to the rapid development in information technology and the prevalence of internet. Internet has become an inseparable part of people's daily life, as well as an important medium in spreading public voice. The police and police department can easily become the focus of social attention, and the frequent occurrence of media outcry online presented new challenges to the protection of national security and social stability. A proper treatment of media attention can improve public confidence and protect the image of policing department, build a good relation between police and the people. If dealt improbably, however, the execution power of the police will be undermine, and the relation will suffer. As a result, the study of turning passive responses into active treatment under the pressure of media attention, and improve the ability of police to dealer with media outcry, in order to establish a positive image has become an important and imminent problem.This article discuss and analyze the treatment of media attention, using the basic principles of governmental relations and cognitive management theories to analyze the example of “70 miles” in Hangzhou. First of all, it introduces the concept of media attention starting from its definition and construction, as well as the ideas of governmental public relations and cognitive management, in order to explain the present condition of police-internet relation and its characteristics. Secondly, the article explains the agencies, methods, mechanisms and effects of our police dealing with internet attention, and addresses some problems present in the current treatment. Again, the article will introduce the background of “70 miles”, analyze its process using theories of governmental public relations and cognitive management, discovering some of the problems in the treatment of the events, and find out answers to these problems. At last, give suggestions to improve the treatment for media attention from the aspects of ideology, mechanism construction and team establishment and media report.
