The United States plays a leading role in the process, while China has to accept passively most of the time, therefore, whether the Sino-U.S. military relations can develop smoothly is largely based on the United States about strategic positioning of China. The third and fourth chapter utilize the theory of structural realism in international political, which combined with the evolution of Sino-U.S. military relations in the late of the cold war, theoretically discussing the influencing factors and the law of development of Sino-U.S. military relations. According to the theory of structural realism, China and the United States approach gradually and cooperate inthe military field is based on the common interests of security, but in order to prevent the possibility of China to become the "real threat", the United States still insists on arms sales to Taiwan, and takes various means to curb the rise of China for fear that beyond or compete with itself.
