Translation Of Prepositional Phrases And Passive Sentences In Architectural Text

The translation practice text is selected from the Architecture&Detail(2016 No.6)magazine.The whole translation process has been thoroughly elaborated through four chapters including task description,task process,case study,and conclusion.Architecture&Detail belongs to scientific and technical texts and covers all aspects of architecture.In the process of translation practice,the translator encountered a lot of translation problems,among which the prepositional phrases translation and passive sentences translation are major obstacles.In the chapter of case study,through combining with examples in translation practice,the translator will elaborate on the translation strategies and methods used during the translation process.To solve the translation problem of prepositional phrases,the translator mainly used amplification and paraphrase.In solving passive sentences translation problems,the translator mainly used the methods of literal translation,adjustment of word order and free translation.The passive sentences were translated into Chinese active sentence,Chinese non-subject sentence and Chinese passive sentence.The translator has came up with some approaches to solving difficulties encountered in the translation process.The translator explains the experience as well as defects in translation in this report and sincerely hopes to offer some references to other translators.
